About Us
Herlihy Mid-Continent Company of Illinois was established in the year 1919 by F.J. Herlihy. With the main office located in Downtown Chicago, Herlihy began its journey by constructing buildings and other structures around the City of Chicago.
In the 1920's Herlihy Mid-Continent Company made its mark on regional history when it built 70% of the original upper and lower Wacker Drives, then a visionary project that required long hours of skilled work using progressive construction methods and now a landmark of Chicago.
Needing more space for expansion and equipment storage, the Company moved from Downtown Chicago to the southwestern suburbs where a new facility was built. This provided additional office space as well as a maintenance shop and a large yard for equipment and material storage.
Today, with nearly 100 years of experience, Herlihy Mid-Continent Company has become a leader in the construction industry. As a strong, solid Company, Herlihy has earned an unprecedented reputation for excellence in concrete construction in Metropolitan Chicago.
Safety
Herlihy Mid-Continent Company (HMC), recognized by its “Go in’ Home Safe” motto that is placed on the front of every safety manual, puts into practice what its words promote. As a company, HMC has implemented a safety program that includes numerous programs that provide the necessary guidelines, education and training to ensure that every employee GOES HOME SAFE each and every day we work. As a result of a successful safety program and a true commitment to safety, HMC has been selected as a Finalist twice at The Associated General Contractors of American Safety Excellence Awards Competition.
All employees at HMC from management to the craft workers, understand that safety comes before all else. They are motivated because the safety program makes everyone want to be a part of a program that works and as a result rewards all for their dedication to safety and health. It works, not only because of our comprehensive written programs, but because of the following:
- Competent Persons on the job site who develop plans to identify and eliminate hazards.
- New Employee Safety Orientation
- Behavior Based Safety Incentive/Bonus Program
- Constant education and training so that all are up-to-date and qualified for whatever tasks face them on a daily basis.
As the result of our commitment to safety we are proud to announce that we have been approved into a partnership with OSHA through the Builders Association of Greater Chicago.
Design/Build
Herlihy uses the Design/Build method in order to benefit Owners and those, such as the motoring public, affected by work on individual jobs. By starting construction during the design phase, and by ensuring that the design team considers construction issues, Herlihy has completed some of its largest and most sophisticated projects ahead of schedule and below budget.
